American Glass is a comprehensive source for high quality glass. The company specializes in the manufacture and distribution of monolithic and insulated glass, custom glass and heavy glass fabrication. In their efforts to consistently improve their products and services, they recently invested in the expansion of their Movetro Storage and Retrieval System for their Head Office in Springfield, MO, as well as the addition of a brand new, state-of-the-art Intermac Genius CT-RED Cutting Table.

The Expansion Process

Steve White, Matodi’s Southeast Regional Sales Representative, consulted with American Glass to improve their glass storage and handling processes utilizing Movetro automated system capabilities. Working with stakeholder’s across the American Glass team and the Movetro team, Steve helped determine the right machinery choices for the future of production and storage at American Glass. Together they devised a multi-stage plan that would allow for easy installation and transition to the new system.

The company was previously loading one sheet at time manually with a suction lifter onto a tilting table. We were able to help them phase out this manual process by first installing 34 Movetro drawers with automatic ground loader, connected and feeding to existing tilting table.

Before the recent Movetro upgrades

The speed in which the glass is loaded onto the table has greatly improved our daily cutting capacity and has really made a much safer environment for our employees.

We recently implemented “phase 2” which included the install of an additional 27 Movetro drawers and a new Intermac Genius CT-Red cutting table. The Genius CT Red machine offers an automatic label printer, an option that can deposit bar code labels on the glass to work with downstream processes. As well, whatever type of glass comes down the line, Genius CT-Red’s six-position tool storage system automatically chooses the correct scoring wheel. Genius also exerts the proper cutting pressure and customizes the amount of cutting fluid. Movetro’s intelligent management software knows what glass is on which rack, and how to get it to the cutting table efficiently.

The new improvements have been successful and delivering positive results for the company. “Our investment in the Movetro Storage and Retrieval System has proven to be a very good decision for us,” shared American Glass company president, Aaron Day. “We’re able to store and organize the bulk of our inventory into a much smaller footprint. The speed in which the glass is loaded onto the table has greatly improved our daily cutting capacity and has really made a much safer environment for our employees.”

We are honored that American Glass has entrusted Matodi’s expertise to help streamline and improve their glass storage and handling processes.
